Specialist cardiology within an endocrine clinic: heart disease, cholesterol, diabetes and menopause managed by one team.
Dr Farrah Othman (FRACP), interventional and general cardiologist, consults at The Endocrine & Wellbeing Clinic in Balmain, with ECG, echocardiography and stress echocardiography performed in-rooms. She works alongside the clinic’s endocrinologists, Dr Isobelle Smith, Dr Thaw Dar Htet, Dr Naomi Even Zohar and Dr Annabel Lee, so that the diabetes, lipid, weight and menopause conditions that drive cardiovascular risk are managed in the same place as the heart. Coronary artery disease
Chest tightness on the stairs, breathlessness on exertion, or a recent heart attack or stent. Assessment, medication and procedural care for narrowed coronary arteries and angina.
Coronary angiogram and stents
You have been told you need an angiogram, or had a stent in hospital and want to understand what was done. What the procedure involves, recovery, and the medication that follows.
Cholesterol and statins
High cholesterol on a blood test, a family history of early heart disease, or doubts about starting a statin. Lipid assessment, including lipoprotein(a) and inherited causes, and treatment matched to your risk.
Cardiometabolic and preventative cardiology
Diabetes, excess weight or high blood pressure and a wish to know your actual heart risk before anything happens. Risk assessment with calcium scoring, and prevention managed with the clinic's endocrinologists.
Women's cardiovascular health
Menopause, a history of pre-eclampsia or gestational diabetes, or symptoms that have not been taken seriously. Cardiac assessment for women, coordinated with the clinic's menopause care.
Heart investigations
Echocardiogram, stress echocardiogram, ECG, Holter monitor, 24-hour blood pressure and home sleep studies, in-rooms from 24 November. GPs can refer directly for tests.
